I. Professional Appointments

2020–2021

Analytical Chemist (Metals Department)

South West Water, Exeter, UK

  • Analysed metal content in the public water supply by ICP-MS — instrument operation, maintenance, and sample preparation on an Agilent 7000-series system.
  • Worked as a key worker through the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping water quality assurance running under constantly changing health guidelines.
  • Managed analytical results in the laboratory LIMS, ran proficiency schemes, and supported training across the department.
2016–2018

Assistant Scientist

Environment Agency, Leeds, UK

  • Rotated across the National Laboratory Service departments, analysing environmental samples to UKAS-accredited standards for the Agency and external clients.
  • Analysed formal samples used as evidence in legal prosecutions, where chain of custody and quality control are non-negotiable.
  • Specialised in organic chemistry — volatile organic compounds by headspace GC-MS — and co-produced an educational video on asbestos identification by polarised light microscopy for NLS conferences.
2014–2015

STEM Outreach Assistant

University of Bradford, STEM Central Laboratory, University of Bradford

  • Delivered everything from Lego Robotics workshops to undergraduate chemistry practicals in the STEM Central laboratory.
  • Represented the Royal Society of Chemistry, delivering the Spectroscopy Outreach Workshop to over thirty schools and colleges across Yorkshire.
